How to Order Art

To order a portrait of your pet, first decide whether you would like a Pastel Portrait, Watercolour Painting or a Pencil Drawing.

Then select a size for your portrait.

Once you have decided on the type and size of portrait, you can secure your order with a deposit.

Finally, choose which photographs you would like me to work from, and send this to info@gillianussherart.com.

Pastel Portraits

  • Pastel Portraits are the most popular, they are highly detailed and realistic. They are drawn by hand with pastel pencils and soft pastel sticks, and although delicate until framed, once safely behind glass they will last for generations.

Watercolour Paintings

  • Watercolour Paintings capture colour and character, although not in the highly detailed way of pastel. They are a favourite for anyone with a preference for a softer painting over the realism of a pastel drawing.

Pencil Drawings

  • Pencil Drawings are the third option, and I often think of them as the opposite to watercolour as they bring a high level of detail without colour.

What Size to Choose

  • For a portrait of one pet with just their head and shoulders, any size will work.

However if you want to add a full body or a background, the size should be at least 10” x 8” for a Pastel Portrait or 12” x 8” for a Watercolour Painting or a Pencil Drawing.

  • For just a head and shoulder portrait of two pets, any size from 10” x 8” for a Pastel Portrait or 12” x 8” for a Watercolour Painting or Pencil Drawing will work well, even with a background. For example, the portrait of the whippets featured on this page measured 12” x 10”.

At least 16” x 12” should be selected if you would like to include their full bodies.

  • For more than two pets, the size should be at least 16” x 12”.

The same is true for detailed backgrounds.
